Through a smooth draw in the last round this morning Bao Jin Wen<\/strong> became Hong Kong Chess Federation’s first-ever World Chess Champion<\/strong>\u00a0of any sort by remaining undefeated with 8 points out of 9 in the U7 age category. Applause!<\/p>\n

Michael Deng<\/strong>, despite his loss in the last round, claimed 3rd position<\/strong> in the U9 age category.<\/p>\n

All other players scored anywhere in between 3 and 5 points which is not bad at all given the competition coming from the world’s best.<\/p>\n

“I am very pleased with the chess results of our kids. And having been here the whole time, I even cherish more to have seen unfold camaraderie and friendship between our children who perhaps for the very first time were not competitors but part of the same team. With this, a crucial, but still fragile, foundation for continuing interest in chess among our youth has been laid.”<\/p>\n
